Native to Itoman, “Sabani” has been the boat of Okinawan fishermen since the Ryukyu Kingdom period. It is a small vessel moving on a combination of sail and paddles.
Used for fishing and transportation, Sabani are designed to glide on Okinawa’s shallowest reef flats, and also to cut through the strong waves of the open seas between islands. Rapid, silent, elegant, each Sabani boat is a testimony to Okinawan traditional craftmanship.

What you need
- How to dress?
This is a marine sports activity; as such, participants should be dressed adequately to swim in seawater. Protective clothing such as rash guards and marine shoes are recommended (open sandals or heels cannot be used).
- What to bring?
Participants are also required to bring their own sun protection and drinking bottles.
- Other Equipment
Seawater is very corrosive, we strongly discourage bringing wallets, phones or electronic equipment.
