Calligraphy is a traditional Japanese cultural practice that involves writing kanji or kana characters using a brush and ink—ancient writing tools—to express thoughts through the characters and their styles. In December 2021, calligraphy was registered as an Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Course Content
In this experience, participants will not only engage with calligraphy itself but also learn Japanese etiquette at the same time. You will gain a deeper understanding of the world of calligraphy by learning its basic rules, as well as the etiquette of a traditional Japanese room and the meaning behind each movement. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to try writing kanji with a large brush.

◎ Held for groups of 4 or more (up to a maximum of 10 participants)
◎ Duration: 60 minutes
◎ Instructor: Kou Ota (Nitten artist, First-Class Judge of the Japan Calligraphy Institute, Councilor of the Yomiuri Calligraphy Exhibition, Director of Kyuyo Bunsha, and Head of Kosha)
◎ Application deadline: 2 weeks before the event date
◎ Cancellation deadline: 1 week before the event date
