The “Yamaguchi Tanabata Lantern Festival” is the heart of Princess Ouchi who prayed for the souls of her ancestors and lit a tall bamboo lantern about 600 years ago during the Muromachi period. Tens of thousands of lanterns surround the city with fantastic light and dye the city of Yamaguchi red. It is a traditional event where Tono mikoshi, hime mikoshi, and lantern yamakasa parade around, conveying the enthusiasm of the bearers. You will experience “burning a lantern” and “carrying a lantern mikoshi” with local people.
