Let us guide you through the picturesque hidden pottery village of Imari Okawachiyama, where the landscapes resemble ink paintings and a strong culture of pottery permeates everything. Afterward, savor a delicious Saga Beef steak lunch. Continue your journey at the Kyushu Ceramic Museum, where you'll delve into the rich history of Arita ware and the distinct styles of ceramics from around Kyushu. Afterward, immerse yourself in the timeless artistry of Fukagawa Seiji, one of Arita’s most iconic kilns, as we guide you through the China on the Park gallery—a space where tradition meets modern innovation.

Highlights

Okawachiyama

For over 210 years, from the 1660s, Okawachiyama produced exquisite Nabeshima ware exclusively for the shogunate. Only the most skilled craftsmen were allowed to create the famous porcelain, and the Saga domain carefully controlled the techniques used and pottery made. Today, visitors can stroll through the scenic village, with its stunning cliffs and the charming chimneys of over 30 still-operating kilns, perfectly evoking the village’s nickname—“The Village of the Secret Kilns.”

Kyushu Ceramic Museum

Dedicated to the art of pottery, the Kyushu Ceramic Museum houses a stunning collection of around 30,000 ceramic pieces, including Arita ware and other masterpieces from around Kyushu. With a mix of iconic works and digital displays, the museum offers an insightful look into the history of Kyushu ceramics, highlighting different periods and styles. You’ll also find works by contemporary artists on display.

Fukagawa Seiji China on the Park

Perched on a hill and surrounded by lush greenery, the Chujikan gallery showcases the full elegance of the Fukagawa Seiji style, from pieces by Fukagawa Chuji, founder of Fukagawa Seiji, to modern creations inspired by his legacy. The gallery also houses a remarkable large vase that won the gold medal at the 1900 Paris Exposition.

For those looking to shop, Jikigura is a factory-direct outlet where porcelain fans can hunt for hidden treasures.
