Hakata-Ori textile was first introduced by Hakata merchants who went to the Song Dynasty in 1241 during the Kamakura period. In the Edo period, it was given as a gift from the Kuroda Domain to the Edo Shogunate, and it was an opportunity for Hakata-Ori textile to spread all over the country, and it became known for the Hakata-Ori textile gift pattern.

It was certified as a national traditional craft in 1976.“Nishimura Orimono,” the oldest weaver of Hakata-Ori textile, still has an integrated in-house production system, and efforts are being made to preserve Hakata-Ori textile for the future with cutting-edge technology while preserving tradition.
